Mumbai Welcomes its First Ever Microbrewery – THE BARKING DEER!

Germany stands for traditional Beer-Culture and today India jumps into a new era of traditional beer culture with the first micro-brewery in Mumbai. For me as german who is proud of his tradition it was not easy to drink a “Chocolate-Beer”… Guess where I drank it … Yes in India at “The Biere Club” in Bangalore. At time its the number one hotspot for the indians and everyday overcrowded. I love the indian way to experiment with the beer culture and mix it up with there own tradition. They create a beer out of coriander seeds and rice.

Today the new era starts in India…

Mumbai: Bottled beer is so passé, now that Mumbai is inaugurating its very first micro brewery. Beer revelers can glug down this frothy golden goodness right off the tap only at The Barking Deer — the pioneer brewpub in town! 7^th November will be etched in the history of brewing lore as we shall witness the first serving of the city’s own craft beer.

This is not another run-off-the-mill launch. It’s a launch with a heart — as proceeds from the auction go for a worthy cause. The first ever brewed beer will be up for grabs to the highest bidders – including one full keg! Proceeds of these will go to the Jai Vakeel School for Children in need of Special Care (run by The Research Society).

You can then enjoy the freshly brewed beer at a price of Rs. 350 per mug with half the proceeds going charity.

The Barking Deer Brewpub & Restaurant was founded on the belief that the Impossible Happens. Many people doubted that Mumbai would ever see a Microbrewery serving handcrafted beer. In spite of all the hindrances, we preferred seeing the beer mug half full! Beer here will never be seen as before. Selections from all around the world will make your beer experience like no other! Handcrafted, smooth and foamy, the brewpub offers the authentic, the all-time-favorites, as well as the unheard of. Giving Bombay exactly the kind of beer they deserve!

Launching with three “impossible” beers – Bombay Blonde Ale, Barking Deer India Pale Ale & Flying Pig Belgian Wit, these will make you want to come back for more.

Founder Greg Kroitzsh, a former banker, surrendered to his long-time dream of his owning a brewery like the ones he loved in America. He explains, “Growing up in the city of Boston, I could never have imagined that one day I’d be opening the first brewpub in Mumbai! It’s proof Impossible Happens!”

Greg found a Head Brewer to make his dream come true. A trained chef and brewmaster, Benjamin Johnson has devised cutting edge beer recipes that will make their way to taps soon. Amongst these, are the ‘hatke’ likes of wheat beer brewed with kokum and a Belgian inﬂuenced dark strong ale aged with dried kashmiri chiles. Ben’s inspiration comes from West-coast American breweries as he cut his brewing teeth in Alaska.
